HOULTON, Maine — Students at Houlton Elementary School enjoyed a morning theatrical presentation on Wednesday, March 20.

Five students enrolled at the University of Maine’s School of Performing Arts chose to use their spring break to tour the state. They performed at ten Maine schools including: Houlton, Presque Isle and Caribou.

Ethan Leonard, one of the students, said that the group gave up their spring break to provide some exposure to theatre for the elementary students and they were not receiving extra credit and it was not part of their overall course work. They wanted the experience of the production and to see other parts of Maine away from the Orono campus. The group practiced for seven weeks to get ready for their excursion.

The students presented, “Can you imagine?” an original play with few props and lots of improvisation. The students were from Maine, New Jersey, Texas and California. Besides Leonard, other participants were Keely Gonyea, Mitchell Arsenault, Angelina Buzzelli and stage manager, Asher Mason.
