PRESQUE ISLE, Maine — Two students from the same class at Zippel Elementary School in Presque Isle won the Maine Elks Association’s Drug Awareness poster contest, held throughout the state of Maine in February.
According to Anthony Gause, the Elks Drug Awareness Program director for the state, Gavin Halley and Victoria Casey, both students in Mrs. June Hoffses’ fifth-grade class at Zippel, submitted posters the judges chose as the best in the state.
The theme for this year’s poster contest was “Drugs Take Away________,” and students filled in the blank with their ideas.
Halley and Casey will be honored at the upcoming convention of the Maine Elks Association in Lewiston on May 4.
