CARIBOU, Maine — Micmac Farms of Caribou will host an agricultural showcase with a twist on Saturday, April 6, from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m.

The indoor Spring Festival Market will double as a seed swap, and all are welcome to bring seeds and/or plants to swap with the large collection of seeds from Micmac Farms.

“People can share what they have and take home something new to try in their own gardens at home,” said Jacob Pelkey, Micmac Farms marketing manager.

Pelkey said the farm complex has taken 21 vendor reservations for the upcoming market, which promotes Aroostook County agricultural products and showcases local foods. The free event will feature live musical entertainment, samples and access to

knowledgeable farmers happy to assist those interested in local foods or cultivating their own.

Those attending can visit with farmers who travel from as far as Island Falls and Madawaska to display their foods and goods.

Admission is free and families are encouraged to attend.

“This is a wonderful educational opportunity as well as a great way to find the products being raised right here in Aroostook County,” said Pelkey.

The Festival Market Series has gained momentum over the winter and is a  collaboration between theCity of Caribou, Presque Isle Farmers Market and Micmac Farms; together these organizations aim to create access to local foods and empower Aroostook County producers.
