Sen. Carpenter recognizes fellow veterans on National Vietnam War Veterans Day

AUGUSTA, Maine – Sen. Carpenter, D-Houlton, is a Vietnam War veteran. He, and other veterans, were recognized on Friday at the State House in honor of National Vietnam War Veterans Day 2019.

National Vietnam War Veterans Day is observed annually on March 29. Its purpose is to thank and honor the United States’ Vietnam veterans and their families for their service and the sacrifices they made during the Vietnam War.

During his time as a member of the U.S. Army, Sen. Carpenter earned two Bronze stars as an infantry platoon leader.

National Vietnam War Veterans Day also acknowledges the service of our Armed Forces and auxiliary organizations during the war, honors the contributions Americans made at home during the war, appreciates the advances made in technology and science during the war and emphasizes the contributions American allies made during this period.
