From the Bunkers (week of April 10, 2019)

HOULTON, Maine — Spring has sprung! At least officially. This week it seems like we are taking two steps forward and one step back as far as the snow melt and temperature. I guess that’s a good thing as far as flooding and ice dams on the rivers. At least the snow that continues to fall goes quickly.

Before too long we will all be out walking around the course, and this will al be a distant memory. The golf course should be open for play in the next few weeks, depending on the weather.

Now is a good time to start walking and stretching to get ready for a great season. If you are a new golfer or have always thought you would like to try golf, I would suggest you sign up for our Golf for Life program. It gives you five lessons, use of golf clubs, and discounts on memberships, greens fees, and range balls. It is also a great way to meet new friends with a common goal to learn the game of golf that you can enjoy for the rest of your life.

An informational meeting will be held Wednesday, April 10, at 6 p.m. at the Gentle Memorial Building. Give David Grant a call to register at 538-8333, or just come on out and sign up at the door.

The Lakeside Restaurant will be opening this Friday for the season. Limited hours will be 4-8 p.m. on Friday and Saturday, and 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Sunday for their famous brunch. These hours will be in effect next week also ending with a tremendous Easter Brunch. Give Nancy a call at 694-9494 for reservations and to welcome her and Bill and staff back for another season. Regular hours will begin when we get the golf course open.

The golf course crew will be out cleaning and preparing the course in the next couple weeks so that we can get our beautiful course up and running. Then we can get you, our members and friends, out there playing. Think warmer thoughts.

Houlton Community Golf Course is located on 6 Country Club Drive in New Limerick. For more information on the course call 532-2662 or email houltongolf@gmail.com
