PRESQUE ISLE, Maine — The day before Easter marked a special time for numerous families who attended a tea party with the Easter bunny at the Mark and Emily Turner Memorial Library on Saturday.
This is the 4th year that the library has hosted the tea party, in which families enjoy tea and finger sandwiches and have their picture taken with the famous bunny. While the event has become a staple for many generations, some families have just begun to make the festivities an annual tradition.
Aaron and Ignacia Dorrington, who recently moved to Presque Isle from Texas, brought their 2-year-old son Grayson and 3-week-old daughter Avery to meet the Easter bunny. Both children posed for photos, with Grayson enthusiastically giving the Easter bunny a high five.
“Grayson is just now starting to realize what Easter is and that’s been fun,” Ignacia Dorrington said.
While enjoying cups of Easter-themed strawberry milk and sandwiches Olivia House, 7, of Presque Isle talked excitedly about meeting the Easter bunny.
“I got my picture taken with her and Mommy,” she said.
Olivia attended the tea party with her brother Jake Davis, 8, and mother Angela Davis, who said that this year was the second time the family has come.
“No matter what age the kids are they love meeting the Easter bunny,” Angela Davis said.
Children’s librarian Melissa St. Pierre noted that in the often busy week of school vacation leading up to Easter Sunday, the tea party provides families with a chance to relax and enjoy each other’s company before the holiday.
“It’s a wonderful chance for kids to come with their parents and grandparents and have a sweet time together,” St. Pierre said.
