AROOSTOOK COUNTY, Maine — The Aroostook Retired Educators association executive board has set the programs for the 2019 summer meetings.

The June 25 meeting will be held at the Southern Aroostook Agricultural Museum in Littleton.  Amanda Barker, Maine’s 2018 representative to National Geographic Institute, will present. Lunch will be turkey dinner will all the fixings, including homemade pies.

The July 30 meeting will take place at Nowland Hall on the campus of the University of Maine at Fort Kent.  Maine Teacher of the Year, Joe Hennessey, will be the speaker. The group will also observe the remembrance program. A buffet luncheon will be served.

The August 27 meeting will be held at the Presque Isle Inn and Convention Center.  The speaker will be Penny Kern, representing the University of Maine at Presque Isle’s SAGE program.  The meal will be a buffet with chicken, meatballs, pasta and broccoli.

The October 1 meeting will be held at the Caribou Inn and Convention Center.  The speaker will be Joy Barresi Saucier, representing the Aroostook Agency on Aging. A roast ham dinner will be served.

All retirees are encouraged to join AREA.  Renew old friendships, stay in touch with fellow retired educators, and find ways to be involved in one of the most important professions in these challenging times.  As public education is attacked, the input and involvement of retired teachers is even more important.

Yearly dues are $7.  Each meal costs $15. Registration for each meeting starts at 11 a.m. with the luncheon to follow at noon.  The business meeting concludes each day’s activities.

Two ongoing projects are the donation of non-perishable foods for distribution to local food pantries and the bulging backpack project.
