CARIBOU, Maine — Municipal officials are gearing for the annual citywide yard sale and distributing flyers to residents detailing addresses of everyone signed up to participate in the three day event.

Nearly 100 residents have signed up as of Friday to participate in the yard sale that runs from 8 a.m. Friday, May 17, to 5 p.m. Sunday, May 19. Among the items up for sale are antiques, adult clothing, bicycles, baby items, books, building materials, cds, records, tapes, jewelry, exercise equipment, TVs and stereos. The

The Caribou Parks and Recreation Department also will host a “Spring Fever Craft and Vendor Market” on Saturday, May 18, which will place several local crafters and vendors all in one location. These vendors are set to sell items ranging from rustic decor, candles, and outdoor accessories.

Caribou Marketing and Events Coordinator Christina Kane-Gibson said the yard sale has grown significantly over the years, with about 80 locations involved last year.

“The event is huge,” she said. “I can’t get the maps out fast enough, and we actually have people who come from out of state. Last year I met a couple people who came up from Kentucky with a trailer, and I spoke to Donna at Russell’s Motel, who confirmed that a couple of people from Ohio also came up for the yard sale.”

She said the yard sale is good time for both shoppers and residents who want to sell some of their extra belongings.

The day is also set to feature a ribbon cutting for County Kettle Corn, formerly known as West Mountain Kettle Corn, and likely best known for its presence during the city’s Thursdays on Sweden street gatherings. The business will also offer deals on popcorn following the 10 a.m. ribbon cutting outside the Caribou Wellness and Recreation Center.

For people considering checking out the citywide activities, Kane-Gibson encourages shoppers and motorists to be safe as several people will be out walking through the city.

“Definitely get out there and enjoy the yard sale,” she said. “A lot of the sales start on Friday, so take a map and plan out a strategy of all the places you want to go, but be aware that there will be a lot of walkers and people parked in the street. Have a little patience, be safe, and make sure to give everything an extra look while you’re driving.”
