PRESQUE ISLE, Maine — Presque Isle police have arrested a local man who had evaded arrest on charges of drug trafficking and violating conditions of release.

On a Facebook post Wednesday, the Presque Isle Police Department thanked the public for providing tips and information that helped them track down Stenson Gustin, after he evaded arrest on Thursday, May 9.

During a related traffic stop on Main Street that day, Cpl. Lucas Hafford ended up arresting the female driver and charging her with possession of methamphetamine. Gustin was a passenger in the vehicle and was in possession of a safe that he refused to open, according Hafford. The corporal seized the safe and reported later finding 2.34 grams of methamphetamine inside it.

Police did not release the name of the female driver or why Gustin was able to escape arrest. But they posted a request on the department’s Facebook page asking members of the public to be on the lookout for Gustin whom police wished to arrest on charges of unlawful possession of Schedule W drugs and violating conditions of release.

No other information, including where police found Gustin, was immediately available.
