Catholics plan Memorial Day services

PORTLAND, Maine — Many masses and prayer services are planned for churches and cemeteries around Maine on Memorial Day Weekend (May 25-27).

Bishop Robert P. Deeley will celebrate a Memorial Day Mass on Monday, May 27, at 10 a.m. in the Chapel of the Holy Rosary at St. Peter’s Cemetery on 217 Switzerland Road in Lewiston. All are invited to this Mass which is an occasion to pray for all our deceased loved ones, especially the men and women who served our nation and have now gone home to the Lord. At this Mass, Bishop Deeley will also bless the mausoleum’s newly installed glass niches for cremated remains.

St. Mary of the Visitation Parish in Houlton will hold a Memorial Day Service at St. Mary’s Evergreen Cemetery on County Road, Monday, May 27, at 9 a.m. Fr. Kent Ouellette will preside at the service.

In Island Falls, Memorial Day prayers will be offered at the cemetery, located on Belvedere Road, on Sunday, May 26, at 11:30 a.m., following the 10:30 a.m. mass at St. Agnes Church in Island Falls.
