MARS HILL, Maine — Central Aroostook Junior-Senior High School of Mars Hill has announced the honor parts for the class of 2019. The valedictorian is Annika Nicholas and the salutatorian is James Hotham. The first honor essayist is Morgan Price and the second honor essayist is Natalie Corson.

Nicholas is the daughter of Chris and Kristy Nicholas of Mars Hill. She has held membership in the National Honor Society, student council, math team and yearbook. She has also been chosen for Maine Principal’s Award and the Phi Beta Kappa Association Academic Achievement Award.
She has been recognized for her efforts earning academic awards in Spanish, chemistry, pre-calculus and Algebra II. She was recognized recently at the CAHS Academic Banquet for earning honor roll each quarter of high school.

Nicholas was voted by the staff as the student of the year in 2018. She has played varsity basketball, varsity softball and volleyball. In basketball she was recognized for the All-Tournament Selection award. Annika was also chosen as the player of the game by WHOU-FM and was a participant in the Aroostook County All Star Basketball Classic.
She has volunteered at the Fort Street School, working with students are various levels. Annika volunteers at Special Olympics, Living Waters Camp, and with Operation Christmas Child events. She has been a kids club leader at her church as well as a child care provider.
Next year she will attend the University of Maine at Presque Isle to study human resource management.
Hotham is the son of James and Stacie Hotham of Blaine. He has earned academic awards in advanced biology, earth science, English, U.S. history and Spanish. He was recognized recently as an honor cord recipient, which means he has achieved the honor roll at Central Aroostook for each quarter of high school.
He has been involved in the National Honor Society, Youth and Government, Fellowship Club, math team and student council while in high school.

He has been very involved in the Mars Hill chapter of the Future Farmers of America. This year he has served as the state vice president of FFA. While in FFA he has earned the greenhand award, a chapter degree and the Future Farmers of America Star Chapter Farmer Award. James was also awarded the Future Farmers of America State Degree. He has earned recognition at FFA state convention for exploranium speaking and discussion meet.
Hotham has also earned 2nd place in the Math Team Northern League. In 11th grade, he was honored by the Daughters of the American Revolution for his excellence in history.
He will attend the University of Maine and study political science.
Price is the daughter of Cameron and Stacey Price of Mars Hill. She has been involved in the student council, chorus, battle of the books, Spanish Club and the National Honor Society.
She has participated in varsity softball and volleyball. She has been recognized for her achievements, earning academic awards in Spanish, biology and English. She has been chosen by the staff at Central Aroostook as student of the month multiple times over the years.
She has worked a student aide at the elementary school in the Pre-k and kindergarten rooms, where she has truly excelled. Recently she was recognized for earning her honor cord for graduation by being on the honor roll every quarter of high school.

Price has participated in service to her community by working for the school Christmas gift drive, volunteering at Special Olympics, and serving meals to veterans and elderly in the community.
She plans to attend Harvest Bible College in Scotland.
Corson is the daughter of Rachel Corson and the late George Corson of Dresden. She was selected for the National Honor Society this year as a senior at Central Aroostook High School.
She was recently recognized for earning honor roll each quarter of high school and will wear an honor cord at graduation.
She has been involved in cheerleading throughout her high school career, this year earning a state championship with her team. Corson has volunteered at Togus, Special Olympics and multiple cheerleading events.
She plans to study dental hygiene at the University of Maine at Augusta next fall.
The class of 2019 will graduate on June 7, 2019, with the exercise being held in the Central Aroostook Jr./Sr. High School gymnasium at 7:30 p.m.
