LIMESTONE, Maine — Limestone will hold its municipal election from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. Tuesday, June 11, at Limestone Town Office on Main Street, where residents can vote for two selectmen and other town organizations.
For the selectboard, incumbent Pat St. Peter and James Pelkey Jr. are vying for a three-year seat. Additionally James Cote is running for a seat on the Limestone Water and Sewer District Board of Trustees, and Michelle Albert and Grace O’Neal are running respectively for three- year and two-year seats on Limestone School Committee.
The results will be made official during the town meeting, which is scheduled for 6:30 p.m. Wednesday, June 12, at Limestone Community School.
Residents also will be able to vote on the municipal budget, which, not including the overlay, is $1,659,592, or $117,292 higher than last year’s budget of $1,542,300. This number includes county taxes and school expenses in addition to the municipal budget. Well more than half of the proposed increases are a result of the county and school expenses, which this year are $806,132, or $84,607 higher than last year’s total of $721,525.
On the municipal side, expenses are $853,460, or only $32,685 higher than last year’s total of $820,775.
Limestone’s June 30 departure from RSU 39, a school unit consisting of Caribou, Limestone and Stockholm, will affect the budget, as the town is responsible for a one-time withdrawal expense of $150,000.
In a previous story published in the Aroostook Republican & News, it was incorrectly reported that the town meeting would be occurring on June 11, however, this is the scheduled date of the election.
