CARIBOU, Maine — The 10th annual Caribou Summer Viking Wrestling Camp returns Monday, June 24 through Friday, June 28 at Caribou High School.
The camp, which is open to any students in grades 3-12, runs from 9:30-11:30 a.m. each day. Caribou High School varsity coach James “Chico” Hernandez will lead the camp, teaching proper wrestling etiquette from the basic moves to more advanced techniques.
The cost to attend the camp is $40 per person. Registration can be payable to Caribou Athletic Department. Registration begins at 9 a.m. on the first day of the camp.
Hernandez is Maine’s only wrestler in the AAU National Wrestling Hall of Fame and the Maine Sport Hall of Fame. He has won 54 International wrestling titles, is a 36-time National All-American in Sombo, Freestyle, Greco-Roman and American High School/College Wrestling. In 2018 he won World Bronze in Morocco, Africa and in 2015 Chico has won the USA Wrestling
Triple Crown of USA Wrestling winning all 3 National Championships’ in Freestyle, Greco-Roman and American Folk style. He was featured on a box of Wheaties Energy Crunch cereal and appeared on the cover of CNN/SI “Faces in the Crowd.”
