BRIDGEWATER, Maine — A 21-year-old Presque Isle woman escaped injury when her vehicle burst into flames on U.S. Route 1 in Bridgewater Friday afternoon.
Miranda Flannery was driving a 2012 Chevrolet Impala south on U.S. Route 1 at 3:26 p.m. Friday when she noticed the smell of something burning, according to Cpl. Dennis Quint of the Maine State Police Troop F.
Flannery pulled her car to the side of the road and at that point noticed smoke coming from underneath her dashboard. As she exited the car, the vehicle’s interior became engulfed in flames.
The Bridgewater Fire Department extinguished the flames. Traffic was reduced to one-lane while emergency personnel worked to extinguish the fire. The car was removed from the roadway by Brewer’s Service, Mars Hill.
Cpl. Quint said the cause of the fire remains under investigation. Flannery was not injured in the incident. The car was a total loss.
