MARS HILL, Maine — The Maine Community Foundation has appointed Carol Bell of Presque Isle and Bryan Thompson of Caribou as local advisers to the Aroostook County Committee.
Bell worked over 20 years in the potato and wood industries, including eight years as general manager for J.M. Huber Corp. She spent 15 years in public health as project manager under the Healthy Maine Partnership Grant.
She serves as chairwoman of the Northern Light A.R. Gould hospital board and is a member of the SAD 1 school board, the Central Aroostook Chamber of Commerce, Hope and Justice Project and the Loring Development Authority.
Bell received her associate of science in environmental technology from Eastern Maine Vocational Technical Institute and her BS in industrial technology from the University of Southern Maine at Loring Air Force Base.
Thompson is owner and CEO of Thompson-Hamel, LLC, an investment, insurance, estate planning, and payroll company with offices in Presque Isle and Bangor.
Prior to joining Thompson-Hamel in 2012, he served in various management capacities at the Defense Finance abd Accounting Service Center in Limestone.
He graduated with dual bachelor’s degrees in accounting and business management and information systems from the University of Maine at Presque Isle and earned a master of business administration degree from Husson University. He was named Caribou Citizen of the Year in 2015.
Aroostook County businesses and individuals established the Aroostook County Fund in 1986 to ensure the county would have local charitable resources to address community issues and challenges. Over the years, the fund has grown to almost $1,000,000 and the Aroostook County Committee has awarded more than $500,000 in grants.
The MCF is headquartered in Ellsworth, with additional personnel in Portland, Dover-Foxcroft, and Mars Hill.
