To the editor,
I just read an article regarding the bill that was passed by the [Maine] House [of Representatives] to provide welfare benefits to the asylum-seekers coming into the state of Maine. This is a little disappointing because these representatives who voted for this bill claim to be for the elderly and the veterans, but so quickly jumped on the Portland bandwagon.
We should be looking to help the veterans who are homeless and the elderly with quality healthcare among other issues. Portland has open arms for asylum seekers but can’t even decide where they should put the homeless shelter for Maine people.
It’s a sad day when you put outsiders over our own. Rant over.
