HOULTON, Maine — The University of Maine at Augusta will celebrate 30 years of distance education in a statewide event Wednesday, July 17, from 4 to 6 p.m.
Included in the event will be comments from those who helped develop Maine’s largest distance education network, friends, students, faculty, and alumni. The event will serve as an opportunity to learn about this revolutionary educational development in 1989; its evolution as technologies improved; and its strong future in fulfilling UMA’s mission of making education accessible to all.
The event begins at 4 p.m. with meet/greet, tours and refreshments. President Rebecca Wyke will deliver a welcome and message regarding the past 30 years of Distance Education live via Zoom/VC technology. Three of the University of Maine System Centers, including Houlton, will then deliver a brief message.
At the Houlton Center, President Ray Rice will speak on behalf of the University of Maine at Presque Isle’s connection to Distance Education and the Houlton Center. After the live broadcast, attendees will enjoy refreshments and music. Cake will top off the celebration.
