ISLAND FALLS, Maine — The community of Island Falls will celebrate 10 days of fun activities as part of its annual summerfest event. This year’s theme is “Let’s Go to the Hop” and is sure to feature plenty of poodle skirts and saddle shoes.
The festivities kick off on Friday, July 26, with a customer appreciation event at Katahdin Federal Credit Union from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m., continue with a barbecue/car show put on by Bowers Funeral Home and G.R. Porter and Sons at 5:30 p.m. and concludes with a family street dance 7-11 p.m. at the Island Falls Municipal Building.
Highlights of Saturday, July 27, include a Family Fun Day with numerous children’s games at the Island Falls Municipal Building parking lot; a retelling of the “Story of Island Falls” by the Historical Society at the Tingley House at 2 p.m.; a steak supper at the VFW on the Houlton Road from 5-6:30 p.m. and fireworks at VaJoWa golf course at 9 p.m.
Other highlights are a canoe/kayak race on Sunday, July 28; a children’s parade and pet show on Tuesday, July 30; a 5K road race and antique tractor pulls on Saturday, Aug. 3; and a parade on Sunday, Aug. 4.
