We wanted to give you an update on Luke and Lydia — the two black kittens that were so sick. Lydia has made a full recovery, but one of her eyes has a small scar. Other than that her vision is good.
Luke, as you may recall, had to have one eye removed, we were able to save the other eye, but he has little to no vision in that eye. Luke and Lydia will only be adopted together, Lydia is Luke’s support system and his eyes. Without Lydia, Luke would be lost. It has to be a quiet home where there is no chance they will get outside. Luke would not survive outside. We are going to be very picky about where they go and a home visit will be required. These two have been through a lot and deserve nothing but the best and we are going to make sure that happens.
Now we would like to tell you about Precious. She is a tiny black and white kitten about 6 weeks old. Her story will break your heart. Imagine being 6 weeks old and being taken away from your mom too early. You don’t even weigh 1 pound and someone puts you in a car and drives along and then just tosses you out the window on the side of the road.
That is what happened to Precious. My first reaction when I got the phone call was who does something like this? Then the anger kicked in. This sweet innocent little kitten did not deserve this. That day Precious had a guardian angel watching over her. A young 10 year old little girl saw what happened and ran to her rescue. She scooped Precious up and called her mom at work.
When the story about Precious was posted on Facebook everyone commented on how they hoped she got a license plate number or a picture. Not many 10 year olds carry a cell phone or would even think to get a plate number. Clearly this young girl had more compassion and love for this tiny living creature than the adult driving the car.
Her first thought was to go and help the kitten, nothing else was on her mind. There is something to be said about the youth of today. If there were more people in the world today with a heart like hers, the world would be a better place. It reminds me of the words to a song “teach your children well.”
Clearly, this young lady has a heart of gold and and her actions that day saved a life. As for Precious she is a happy playful little kitten with only a few scrapes from the whole ordeal. She is now looking for a new family to love her and take care of her so she can live a long and happy life.
Thank you for your continued support and as always, thank you for reading our column.
