ISLAND FALLS, Maine — The annual weeklong Island Falls Summerfest celebration came to a close Sunday for another year with a large parade, followed by a cookout, crafts and children’s games at the town Municipal Building.
This year’s theme of “Let’s Go to the Hop” generated a number of colorful entries and plenty of classic music coming from the floats. Sunday’s temperatures were a bit cooler than previous years, much to the delight of many of the spectators lining the streets.

The Little Steps, Big Dreams Daycare won first place for its float. Vacationland Resort placed second and the Island Falls Seniors were third.
“Most events were great this year,” said Ruth Frazier, Island Falls’ recreation director. “We had lots of comments and would like to have volunteers to start planning for next year as it is our 150th.”
