People always say “There’s nothing to do in The County.” I however don’t think that’s true. Being a native to The County and living here for my entire life, I think that there are many things to do in Aroostook County if you just open your eyes.
Most of us who grew up in The County grew up on dirt bikes, four wheelers, skis and snowboards, which is definitely a huge part of us, but not many people actually sit down and look around at what a beautiful community we live in. Aroostook County holds some of the most gorgeous views, the perfect sunsets, and, believe it or not, every little town that makes up Aroostook County has its own spark or flare to it. Every town in this little community holds a piece of someone’s heart.
I’ve heard more times then I can count, “Wow, this place is a dump” or “Why would anyone actually want to live here?”
Well many reasons. First of all the memories that are held all over Aroostook County are enough to make someone never want to leave and not only that but we truly are a community that cares for each other. When my grandfather passed away, I had people come up to me that I didn’t even know and give me a hug and tell me it’s going to be okay. Once there was a lady who passed away at my town’s IGA, and they shut it down on the day of her funeral and everyone in the town went to the funeral whether you knew her or not, because that’s what a community should do.
The County may be small, and there may not be much here, but this will always be home filled with familiar faces, friends and family who will always have their arms wide open for you, welcoming you home when you decide to leave, and I promise you, there is no other place on this planet that will feel as much like home as The County does.
