MACHIAS, Maine – Machias Savings Bank, with local branches in Houlton, Presque Isle and Caribou, has been named one of the Best Banks to Work For in the Nation for the fifth year in a row.
The bank placed 17th on the list of 85. It is the only facility headquartered in Maine, and one of three headquartered in New England, to earn a spot on the list.
“Machias Savings Bank has a 150-year history of treating people right, and that extends not just to our customers and community, but our employees as well,” said Larry Barker, bank president. “Employee engagement and satisfaction is a top priority and every employee is considered to be a member of the family.
“Like any good Maine company, Machias Savings Bank recognizes the power of our team and our people,” Barker said. “To attract the best people to our team, it’s up to us to create the right kind of culture and work environment to make Machias Savings Bank a great place to work. We’re grateful to be recognized by such an esteemed publication as one of the best in the nation.”
The Best Banks to Work For program was initiated in 2013 by American Banker and Best Companies Group. The program identifies, recognizes, and honors U.S. banks for outstanding employee satisfaction. Machias Savings Bank was specifically lauded for its family first culture, offering extra days off on top of vacation days for workers to spend time with their loved ones.
“One of the critical factors in a bank’s success is how it treats its employees. This year’s list honors those institutions which have gone above and beyond to invest in employees’ personal and professional growth,” said Rob Blackwell, editor in chief of American Banker.
American Banker determines the Best Banks to Work For via a two-step process: an evaluation of workplace policies, practices and demographics, and an employee survey. The combined scores determine the rankings.
Headquartered in Machias, the bank has 264 employees across its 16 branches, from Portland to Caribou.
