HOULTON, Maine — The Houlton Council of Catholic Women met on Tuesday, Sept. 3, with Father Kent Ouellette celebrating mass for the living and deceased members of the council in the church.
Following mass, everyone enjoyed a delicious potluck supper in the Parish Center. There were 11 members present, Father Kent and three guests — Betty Phillips, Lynette Dobbs and Jerry Thomas.
Following the meal, President Janet Barker called the meeting to order. Dobbs, a former president of HCCW, installed Mary Grant as vice president for 2019-2020. We began with our opening prayer, salute to the flag and cross and hymn.

Treasurer Jane Mitchell gave a report and noted that the annual audit is upcoming. Kathy Klein gave the secretary’s report for the June 2019 meeting. Alta Reardon, corresponding secretary, read a thank you card from former seminarian Alex Boucher. Barker also read some interesting facts from the 1995-1996 council booklet.
Kathy Klein and Jane Mitchell will continue to lead the Rosary at Gardiner Nursing Home and Madigan Estates on the first Monday and Friday of the month. All members are encouraged to attend.
Mitchell and Klein will also be responsible for supplying the monthly door prize. We will be having our annual Animal Shelter shower for the month of October. A box will be placed in the back of the church if parishioners wish to donate. Items such as pet food, toys, blankets, cleaning supplies will be collected.
Flowers will be donated to the church for First Communion which will be held on Sept. 29. We are participating in the Backpack program again this year. We will not be having our rummage sale this year.
Birthdays and anniversaries for September were noted. Prayer intentions were gathered and Barker lead in a decade of the Rosary. Dobbs won the door prize.
Our next meeting will be 5 p.m. Mnoday, Oct. 7, in the Parish Center. Members are asked to bring a bag lunch as we will be ending our meeting and going to the Parish Mission at 6:30 p.m. All Catholic ladies are invited to attend.
