HOULTON, Maine — A cold, rainy Saturday resulted in fewer people turning out for the annual Harvest Festival in downtown Houlton.
One side of Market Square was closed off to traffic, to allow spectators to mingle freely among the many craft vendors and activities offered.
A shortage of pumpkins around southern Aroostook County, however, resulted in none being available for painting this year. Lori Weston, one of the event organizers, said they were unable to find any local farms that had pumpkins ready this year.
Despite the showers, the tractor train ride proved to be a popular attraction as area youth formed a long line for the chance to ride one of several miniature tractors pulled by a full-size tractor through downtown Houlton.
