PRESQUE ISLE, Maine — Presque Isle Youth Hockey has announced its registration dates for the 2019-2020 season. All Aroostook County children are invited to join for a winter of fun and excitement.
“If you want your winter to go by quickly — and who doesn’t? — join youth hockey,” said Coach Bob Davis. “You can learn a new sport, make new friends and have lots of fun doing it.”
Registration will be from 5:15 to 7:15 p.m. on Monday, Oct. 14, at The Forum in Presque Isle for returning players as well as those who have never played before and were born in 2012 or before. Following registration players will be able to skate around the rink.
Registration for the initiation program, designed for younger players born in 2013 or later, will be from 5:15 to 6:15 p.m. on Monday, Oct. 28, at The Forum. Those new to hockey or returning initiation program players may register at this time.
The yearly registration cost for the Initiation Program is $150, including the USA Hockey registration. All practices are in Presque Isle and there is no travel for this age group. Youth hockey’s used equipment bank will be open so players can find available gear at no cost.
Also on Oct. 28, the youth hockey program will host their first “Try Hockey for Free Day” from 5:15 to 6:15 p.m. There is no cost.
“It is a great way for your child to explore the sport. Bring your own skates or skates will be provided along with a stick,” said Davis. “No other equipment is required. Youth hockey will provide a bike or hockey helmet if you don’t have one. That is as easy as it gets to try hockey for free.”
Davis said Presque Isle Youth Hockey continues to grow with over 120 children from around The County playing. This means more locker room space is needed and plans are in the works to build two new adjacent structures in the spring of 2020. Fundraising is ongoing with almost half of the $22,000 needed already designated.
