PRESQUE ISLE, Maine — The University of Maine at Presque Isle Owls cross country teams competed Sept. 21 at Gordon College in the annual Pop Crowell Invitational 6K. The Women finished in sixth place, with 175 points, of the eight teams in attendance, and the men were fifth, scoring 126 points in the 8K race.
Shelby Shea (freshman, Springfield) set the pace for the Owls with a 28:17, earning her a 27th-place finish. Kendra Silvers (junior, North Berwick) was the next Owl to finish with a 43rd-place 29:17 finish. Jayde Whitten (freshman, St. Albans) finished close behind with a 30:22 time, placing 50th. Annaset Jackson (freshman, Wilton) finished in 53rd place in a time of 30:37. The final scoring Owl to finish was Kaily Rich (freshman, Lebanon), crossing the line with a time of 31:32 and 58th place.
Rebecca Griffin (junior, Hodgdon) shaved off almost three minutes off of her time last week, finishing with a time of 35:12. Hannah Harmon (freshman, Jackman) finished with a time of 35:43.
For the men, Dylan Marrero (freshman) led the way for the Owls, finishing eighth with a time of 29:05 in his first college race. Zackory McAllister (freshman, Waterville) and Trever Levesque (Presque Isle) finished 30th and 31st with a time of 32:15. Hunter Dionne (South Raymond) followed with a 33:43 time, earning a 42nd-place finish. Sean Miller (Eureka, California) rounded out the scoring for the Owls with a 47th-place finish in a time of 34:30.
Nicholas Clark (freshman, Athens) finished in 63rd with a 36:10 time, Stanley Grierson (freshman, Bass Harbor) finished 75th on his first college race, while coming off of injury. Joel Soper (freshman, Livermore) was the final Owl to cross the line with a 76th-place finish.
The Owls will head to Waterville to run in the Maine State Championships, hosted by Colby College on Oct. 5.
