HOULTON, Maine — Houlton Recreation Department season opening activities announced
Below is the information on programs, season passes, open hours, rules and general information for the center. Anyone with questions may contact the Recreation Department at 532-1310.
Game Room Open Hours for Grades 2-12 — Monday through Fridays 2:45-5 p.m.; Saturdays, 1-4 p.m.; Sundays, 1-4 p.m. Gym Open Hours for Grades 2-12: Monday through Fridays 2:45-5 p.m.; Saturdays and Sundays, 1-4 p.m. Both the gym and game room will be open from 1-5 p.m. on RSU 29 early release days this school year.
Adult and youth supervisors will be provided at all open gym and game room hours. Any child in Grade 1 or younger must be accompanied by an adult to be at the recreation center for open gym and game room hours.
Again, this year, students may purchase a game room season pass which entitles a youth to use the pool and ping pong tables throughout the open game room season. This does not include coin-operated games. The cost is $15 for Houlton residents and $20 for non-Houlton residents. If a youth does not invest in a season pass, the price for the use of the pool/ping pong table is 50 cents for 15 minutes.
Another activity offered this fall at the Houlton Recreation Department is the “Just for Fun” program. The new program is a five-week afterschool program held Mondays from 3-5 p.m. for children in grades PreK-5 starting Oct. 21. The program includes games, contests, crafts and a snack. Children in the RSU29 school system can travel via bus to the Gentle Memorial Building, provided they send a note with their child to the school. The cost for the program is $25 per child. Registration is required. There is a limit of 20 children and a minimum of 12 to hold the program. To register, call the dept. at 532-1310 by Oct. 11
The Rec will once again hold the Parent and Tot Time program. This activity will begin on Tuesday, Oct. 15, at the Rec Center. The time for this activity will be 8:30-10 a.m. on Tuesdays and Thursday mornings. This unstructured play time gives parents and tots the opportunity to meet new friends. Some toys will be available or families can bring their own. There is no charge for this activity.
The gym will be open for walkers starting Tuesday, Oct. 15, from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. This free
Activity allows individuals to walk inside throughout the fall and winter months, Mondays through Fridays. Participants are asked to wear sneakers or soft soled shoes in the gym.
Men’s open gym will be held 6-7:30 p.m. Thursdays starting Oct. 17. This pick up style gym time costs $4 per player to participate. Players must be 18 years of age or older and out of high school.
The “Mad Science Spook-tacular Show” will be held this Halloween season at the Houlton Rec
Center. The event for nursery age children and older will be Saturday, Oct. 19, at 3 p.m. Come
enjoy a spooky story about Dr. Erlenmeyer Funkenstein and the Mad Science Goblin with science tricks and treats. Find out what can happen when a scientist doesn’t follow safety rules and an ultraviolet light will reveal a special visitor. This is a free event for all children and their parents.
