SEARSPORT, Maine — Searsport played host to the 2019 Penobscot Valley Conference Championships Saturday.
The championship meet, which rotates host sites every year among member schools, features a single race for the boys and a race for the girls before the results are divided up between respective Class B and C schools.
“The Nor’Easter that went through the middle of the week certainly took its toll on the course,” said Houlton coach Chris Rines. “The already challenging, two-lap course featured a massive hill, narrow wooded pathways, and with 2-plus inches of rain during the week it made it much slower than it normally is. Our kids were about two minutes slower on average, but so wasn’t most of the field and as a result we still placed well and were able to come back with the girls as Class C PVC Runners up.
The Houlton boys placed seventh, which is their highest showing at this meet to date.
The top three girls team scores were: 1, Orono, 18; 2, Houlton, 47; and 3, Narraguagus, 72.
Teagan Ewings placed fifth in 23 minutes, 32.95 seconds. She was followed by Emmalyne Drake in eighth place (24:30.79), Makenna Cooley in 17th (26:53.05, Ellie Grant in 18th (26:56.24), Jeannelle Ross in 21st (28:36.61) and Hope Royal 42nd (35:26.61).
The boys team scores were: 1, Orono, 35; 2, GSA, 46; 3, Bucksport, 99; 4, Dexter, 141; 5, Sumner, 162; 6, Calais, 170; 7, Houlton, 176; 8, Machias, 180; 9, Lee, 223; 10, Central, 237; and 11, Searsport, 265.
Results for the Houlton boys were: 13, Daniel Ross, 20:06.21; 14, Jeremy Stone, 20:07.67; 39, Nolan Jacobs, 24:00.43; 54, Ean Bolstridge, 27:26.86; and 61, Zachary Jeffery 29:04.59.
