At their Oct. 21 meeting, the Mapleton Lions Club hosted two high-ranking Lion leaders.
Past International Director Rod Wright visited the club to discuss Lions International service project priorities and to explain how the Lions Clubs’ International Foundation functions. As a member of the Lions international Board, he represented all the Lions Clubs in Canada during his two-year term on the board. He now resides in Fort Fairfield and continues to be both a Canadian and American Lions Club member.
Also visiting was Past Maine District Governor Paula Beach, who is now the global outreach coordinator for Maine Lions District 41. She spoke on Maine Lions events and projects now underway in Maine. As part of her presentation, she presented Mapleton Lion Paul Grendell with a 100th Lions International diamond anniversary pin. The pin was sent from Lions International to recognize Grendell’s effort to support and maintain newly recruited members to the Mapleton Lions Club.
Beach thanked the Mapleton Lions Club for its leadership in providing help and assistance to residents in the Mapleton, Chapman and Castle Hill towns. Grendell, who is known in the club as “Mr. Mapleton,” received a rousing applause.
Lion President Eric Rodd thanked Wright and Beach for visiting, and presented them with Mapleton Lions Club pins as an appreciation for their visit.

First Friday Luncheon
The monthly First Friday Luncheon is scheduled for this Friday, Nov. 1, at the Mapleton Methodist Church at 11:30 a.m.
We will be on the edge of winter’s arrival so come out and enjoy a terrific meal prepared by the First Friday chefs. Newly harvested potatoes may be on the menu. While the food is always delicious, the real joy is being with long-time friends as well as making new friends and sharing family updates, stories and memories.
Remember there is no charge for the lunch, but donations will be accepted.
Fall yard and craft sale
Susan Maynard from the Chapman Ridge Runners Snowmobile and ATV Club is asking for item donations for the club’s coming yard and craft sale, to be held Nov. 8 and 9 at the clubhouse from 8:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m.
She asked for donations of items to assure the success of the sale. To contact her about donations, call her at 764-1236.
Also the Landowner Turkey Supper is scheduled for Nov. 16, Saturday, at 6 p.m. The supper will be free to members who have paid their membership fees, and free to all landowners.
