BANGOR, Maine — The University of Maine at Presque Isle women’s volleyball team traveled on Nov. 2 to Husson University to take on North Atlantic Conference opponents Husson and Maine Maritime Academy in their last regular season matches of the year.
UMPI lost both matches in three sets vs. Husson, with scores of 25-15, 25-20 and 27-25, and vss MMA, with scores of 25-14, 25-10 and 25-18.
In their meeting with Husson, Breanna Epperly (freshman. Reserve, Louisiana) led the Owls on the defensive end with 18 digs on the match. Ashlon Stroub (junior, Bakersfield, California) added eight digs while Miranda Washinawatok (junior, Shawano, Wisconsin) had seven. Maddi Thweatt (junior, Middleton, Idaho) finished with six kills on 33 attempts while Stroub had four kills on 18 attempts.
According to UMPI Sports Information DIrector Mark Knight, the Owls’ aggressive play was handled well by the Eagles’ defense as they ended the match with 62 digs. UMPI nearly had a comeback win in the third set, with eight kills in the match before Husson was able to put it away.
In the game against Maine Martine, Stroub led the Owls with eight digs while Washinawatok added six. Taylor Miller (junior, Weeki Wachee, Florida) and Washinawatok led the UMPI team with three kills each. The undefeated MMA team put a lot of pressure on the Owls with 37 kills on 88 attacks while adding 37 kills on the match. UMPI ended with 25 digs as a team and 11 kills.
