LYNDONVILLE, Vermont — The University of Maine at Presque Isle will send both men’s and women’s cross country teams to the NCAA regionals in Brunswick on Saturday, Nov. 6, as the women ended in fifth place overall and the men came in seventh during Nov. 2 contests in Lyndonville, Vermont.
The UMPI women met at Northern Vermont Lyndon for the North Atlantic Conference Championship 5K race. The Owls finished in fifth place, led by Kendra Silvers (junior, North Berwick).
SUNY Delhi came away with the win while Husson finished second and UMaine-Farmington third, said Mark Knight, UMPI sports information director.
Silvers finished in 21st place with a time of 26:31, leading UMPI with 8:33 mile splits. Jayde Whitten (freshman, St. Albans) was close behind with a time of 27:20 and a 24th-place finish. Annaset Jackson (freshman, Wilton) was the third Owl runner to finish with a time of 29:17, while Kaily Rich (freshman, Lebanon) finished right behind her with a 38th-place finish, just two seconds behind her teammate. Rebecca Griffin (junior, Hodgdon) was the final UMPI racer to cross the finish line with a time of 32:05.
The team finished with an average time of 28:55 for all five of the runners.
The UMPI men were also in Lyndon to compete in the 8K race.
UMPI was led by Dylan Marrero (freshman, Caribou), finishing in 10th place and earning a second team all-conference nomination. The Owls finished in seventh as a team, with SUNY Delhi winning the NAC championship. Maine Maritime Academy placed second and Thomas College finished third.
Marrero finished with a time of 31:19 with 6:18 mile splits. Hunter Dionne (sophomore, Raymond) was the next UMPI runner to finish with a time of 33:48 and a 27th-place finish. Zackory McAllister (freshman, Waterville) finished in 29th place in a time of 34:03. In 54th place, Nicholas Clark (freshman, Athens) finished in a time of 37:53. Joel Soper (Livermore) was the last UMPI runner to finish with a time of 40:20, finishing in 65th place.
The team finished with an average time of 35:28 for all five of the runners.
