PRESQUE ISLE, Maine — MMG Insurance Company of Presque Isle recently announced the retirement of John H. Cashwell IIl of Bangor from its board of directors, and welcomed new director Donald E. Simon of Lansing, Michigan.
The company detailed the changes at the Oct. 16 board meeting.
Cashwell joined the board in 1997 and served as board chair from 2011 – 2017. He is president of Evergreen Ridge Inc. and JHC Consulting LLC.
He served as president of Seven Islands Land Company from 1992 to 2008 and as director of the Maine Forest Service from 1987 to 1992. He holds a bachelor of science degree in forestry from the University of Montana and a master of science degree in public administration from the University of Maine.
Mr. Cashwell served as a U.S. Army helicopter pilot in Vietnam and also in Operation Desert Storm and is the recipient of two Silver Stars, Distinguished Flying Cross, Soldiers Medal, Bronze Star for Valor, 45 Combat Air Medals and the Purple Heart.
He also received the 2008 Distinguished Alumnus Award from the University of Montana Forestry Alumnus Association and the 2009 Albert D. Nutting Award from Maine Forest Products.
Simon is the CEO of Farm Bureau Insurance of Michigan. His career with the Michigan Farm Bureau family of companies spans 27 years. He holds the Chartered Property and Casualty Underwriter (CPCU) designation as well as the Associate in Reinsurance (ARe), LIMRA Leadership Institute Fellow (LLIF) and (Certified Internal Auditor (CIA) designations.
He has served on the Michigan Auto Insurance Placement Facility board of directors, the Michigan Basic Property Insurance Association board of directors and is a past president of the Mid-Michigan Chartered Property and Casualty Underwriters chapter.
He currently serves on a variety of industry and community committees and boards including the Michigan Department of Insurance and Financial Services Presidents’ Council, Lansing Economic Area Partnership (LEAP) Board, Mid-Michigan Business Travel Coalition Board, and the Sparrow Hospital Foundation Board.
Simon earned a bachelor of arts degree in accounting from Michigan State University.
