HOULTON, Maine — Childhood dreams can sometimes come true. That was emphasized with a smile by Melissa Nataluk, owner of Treasures of the Heart Tea Room in Houlton. When Melissa opened her Tea Room in late September, her childhood dream of having tea with her grandmother and other ladies finally came true.
Nataluk is the wife of Rotarian Frank Nataluk, who invited her to speak at the Monday luncheon Nov. 18, to talk about the atmosphere and vision of her tea room. They have both worked with the Salvation Army as officers and traveled to various places over the last 13 years.
Melissa said she wanted to create a social place that is cozy and inviting, where a person could come to enjoy either by themselves or with friends. She was looking for a place to start and rekindle friendships. A place where people could slow down and dream.
At the start of the tea room experience, patrons choose from one of the 30 types of teas currently offered. She also has seasonal flavors for the holidays. There is a selection of food options for anyone looking for a scone, snack or a luncheon. One can even go as far as having a three-tiered course: savories, scones, and sweets.
Along with the tea and edibles, the Treasures of the Heart also offers a variety of retail products that hold meaning for Melissa. To name a few she has the “Others” line, which are products that are handmade in Kenya and also a line of artwork.
The current hours of the Treasures of the Heart Tea Room are Thursdays and Fridays 11-3 and Saturdays 11-4. There is a Facebook page available which has menu and events posted. And those who want to take a visit are welcome to make reservations or just stop by. The charm and cozy atmosphere will make a nice winter place to stop and warm up with some tea, and maybe just dream a little.
