Mapleton Thanksgiving feast tomorrow

“Everyone is invited” is the message on the Mapleton Lions Hall.  Above the message is the announcement of the second annual Community Thanksgiving Feast to be served at the Mapleton Lions Hall tomorrow, Nov. 28, Thanksgiving Day.

Dinner will be a traditional Thanksgiving Feast with turkey and dressing and all the fixings.   Darcy and Bob McBay are cooking and hosting the dinner and ask that Mapleton, Chapman and Castle Hill friends and neighbors come and celebrate Thanksgiving with each other at the Lions Hall.  The food will be prepared and cooked across the street at their Mapleton Diner. The meal will be served at the hall by many community volunteers.

This meal is free and open to all in the tri-town community.  However, if you wish to support this special community event, there will be a jar for donations.  Donations are not required but they will help.

Meals will be delivered to folks who are unable to come to the hall and aer shut in their homes.  Today is the last day to order food for a shut-in living in the Mapleton, Chapman or Castle Hill area or to volunteer.  Calls should be made to Darcy McBay at 207-554-6350.

Remember everyone is invited, including young and older folks, individuals living alone, empty nesters or whole families.  If you live in the tri-community area, you are invited.

Community dinners

Saturday, Nov. 16, was the night two large turkey dinners were held in Mapleton and Chapman.  The menus for both dinners were very similar and consisted of turkey and all the fixings along with assorted homemade pies for dessert.

Dinner number one was held at the State Road Advent Christian Church. The serving table stretched across the fellowship hall and the homemade pies were too numerous to count. There was plenty to eat for the full house of diners and the overflow of diners who required setting up additional tables to make room for them.

At the head of the serving line, donations were collected for the Jaye Ellis Family to help cover some unforeseen medical expenses.

The second turkey dinner was hosted by the Chapman Ridge Runners Snowmobile and ATV Club to show the club’s appreciation to the landowners who allow snowmobilers and ATV riders access to their properties.  Without the trails that cross these landowners’ properties, there would not be recreational snowmobiling and summertime ATV use.

The clubhouse was bright, warm and cheery with a near full house of diners sharing stories and telling tales about their experiences on the trails, and savoring the many delicious homemade pies.

The club sincerely appreciates the support they receive through trail grooming volunteers and the landowners who grant riders access to their property.

Your columnist will confess to having had dessert at both dinners.  The raspberry, cherry and coconut cream pies were heavenly.

Mapleton Daze auction

The Mapleton Daze Committee is planning a busy Christmas season. First, the Mapleton Daze first annual online silent auction will begin on Dec. 9 at 8 a.m. and run through Dec. 12 ending at 6 p.m.

Do some holiday shopping and help raise funds for Mapleton Daze 2020. Many items and services have been donated for the auction.

Lynnelle Foster, Mapleton Daze president, suggests readers come and browse all the items from the luxury of your sofa.  Bid as many times as you wish for any item keeping in mind that bidding after 6 p.m. on Dec. 12 will not be accepted.

For more information about this event and how it works, check out the event here: https://www.facebook.com/events/473662303497685/ or contact any member of the Mapleton Daze Committee.

Also, if you might have an item or two you would like to donate to this auction, please message Lynnelle Foster through Facebook by Dec. 1, as this is the end date for accepting donated services and items for the auction.

Chapman Ridge Runners Snowmobile and ATV Club hosts an annual turkey supper with local landowners and their families invited as honored guests in appreciation for the access provided to the club’s riders as they travel trails that cross the local landowners’ properties.  As seen here, those attending the dinner included children and adults of both landowners’ and club members’ families.

To the North Pole

Santa Claus is coming to town — Mapleton, that is.

The second December Mapleton Daze fundraising event is planned for the enjoyment of kids.  The committee will host “An Afternoon at the North Pole” from 1 to 4 p.m. on Saturday, Dec. 14, at the Mapleton Lions Hall, 1713 Main Street, Mapleton.

Grab the kids and come to the Lions Hall as it will be transformed into the North Pole.  The Mapleton Daze Committee Elves will host craft activities, cookie decorating and a holiday movie with popcorn, and rumor has it that the big guy himself, Santa, will be stopping by to see if the kids have been naughty or nice and take pictures with them.  Now how much fun does that sound?

As this is a fundraiser for Mapleton Daze 2020, the committee is asking for suggested donations of $5 for each child or a family max bundle (of four or more people) of $20.
