PRESQUE ISLE, Maine — The Probus Club of Central Aroostook held their regular monthly meeting at Northern Maine Community College’s Reed Commons Building on Nov. 22.
President, Dave Maxey introduced the two guest speakers from MMG; Margo Dyer, Human Resources Generalist and Mike Rand, commercial underwriter for MMG.
The company is over 122 years old, started in Houlton, Maine, by a small group of farmers who saw a need to protect themselves in times of shortcomings. So they set aside money every year to cover unforeseen losses should they arise.
In 1988 the company grew and was outgrowing their small office on Main Street in Presque Isle so land was purchased in their present location on Maysville Street is now the home of ever growing MMG, Maine Mutual Group Insurances. There were 100 employees in 1999. Today they have 235 employees. They now have offices in New Hampshire, Vermont, Pennsylvania and Virginia.
In the year 2005 the company reached $100 million in paid premiums.
In the year 2018 the company reached $200 million in paid premiums. The accounting department maintains a surplus amount always available to apply to claims.
The company serves commercial businesses and independent insurance providers and insurance agents. MMG is installing a new web-based system using the latest digital-enterprise architecture experts.
Their excellent reputation for customer service has been an important factor in their continued success. They have been able to maintain individuals with high talent and with potential abilities of the highest quality.
