LIMESTONE, Maine — The Town of Limestone hosted its annual light parade on Dec. 8, which this year had a “Nutcracker” theme and featured several vehicles decked out in colorful holiday lights.
Floats lined up at the Limestone Community School at 5 p.m. and judges from the Limestone Chamber of Commerce announced awards for the best floats in four categories: “Best Business,” “Best Theme,” “Most Creative” and “Best Lights.”
Hometown Fuel won for the best business category, Talk of the Town won the best theme, Brian’s Ride was given the most creative honor, and the Limestone Fire Department was acknowledged for having the best lights.
Additionally, local mobile restaurant Mini Winnie’s stopped by to offer refreshments on Main Street during the parade.
This year, Santa Claus stopped during the parade to light the Christmas tree at Rotary Park — enlisting one of his helpers to do the honors — and then continued down Main Street. In previous years, Santa would light the tree prior to the parade.
The school also hosted an event after the parade where local kids could enjoy crafts, music, snacks and also present Santa with their wish lists.
The town’s annual light parade is made possible through the efforts of the Limestone Chamber of Commerce and the Limestone Recreation Department.
