HOULTON, Maine — A Presque Isle woman was charged with multiple crimes after she allegedly fled a traffic stop in Houlton last month.

Houlton Police Chief Tim DeLuca said in a written statement Friday that the incident took place on Saturday, Nov. 30.

Officer Travis Smith attempted to stop a vehicle suspected of drug activity and traffic violations, DeLuca said. The suspect failed to stop and attempted to elude the officer. Smith pursued the vehicle eastbound on Pleasant Street. The fleeing vehicle was unable to maneuver the intersection at the Foxcroft Road and lost control, striking an unoccupied barn structure. Upon the crash, the suspect fled but was quickly arrested by Officer Smith. The suspect was later identified as Chelsey McBreairty, 27.

Smith contacted the U.S. Border Patrol and requested a police dog for assistance. The dog allegedly determined that there were drugs in the vehicle, he said.

As a result of the investigation, police obtained a search warrant for the vehicle. McBreairty was charged with aggravated trafficking of scheduled drugs, unlawful possession of scheduled drugs, eluding and officer, driving to endanger, criminal mischief, refusing to submit to arrest, speeding over 30 mph over the speed limit, violation of conditions of release and operating while license suspended or revoked. Several of the charges are felonies.
