AUBURN, Maine — Subway restaurants from throughout Maine recently donated the proceeds of a 14-day fundraising effort to the Good Shepherd Food Bank to help feed hungry Mainers.
Restaurants in Houlton, Presque Isle, Caribou, Fort Kent and Madawaska participated in the effort, which raised $5,200 — enough money to provide 20,336 meals.
From Nov. 3 through 16, patrons of the sandwich chain had the opportunity to donate to the local Subway Cares program. All funds donated went to the Good Shepherd Food Bank, which helps supply food pantries all over the state.
On Dec. 11, restaurant board members, managers and sandwich artists visited the Auburn food bank to present a check.
Good Shepherd officials stated, “During the holiday season, the Good Shepherd Food Bank works diligently to ensure that no Mainer will go hungry. With the money raised during this yearly Subway Cares program from Nov. 3 to Nov. 16, the volunteers and staff will be able to provide more meals to our community.”
