ORONO, Maine — University Credit Union has announced three campus branch managers have successfully completed the Financial Counseling Certification Program (FiCEP) through the Credit Union National Association, a national financial services trade association that advocates on behalf of all of America’s credit unions.
Jennifer Deschene of Presque Isle, who serves as the Campus Branch Manager at UCU’s University of Maine at Presque Isle campus location, is now a certified financial counselor.
Also earning the designation were branch mangers Lesley Ridge of Portland and the University of Southern Maine branch, along with Randy Manzo of Brewer and the University of Maine in Orono branch.
“With certified financial counselors on staff, credit unions are better able to help those experiencing financial difficulties [and] demonstrate the credit union difference,” according to CUNA’s website.
“We’ve found that, often, members ask for help with understanding their financial situation, especially those new to managing their own finances for the first time,” said Stacey Young, assistant vice president of retail services at UCU. “We are focused on providing this help at any stage in life, and having three employees with the FiCEP distinction allows us to provide this best.”
UCU is a four-time Best Places to Work in Maine honoree.
