CARIBOU, Maine — The Caribou Viking boys and girls varsity basketball teams split pre-Christmas games with Bangor’s John Bapst Dec. 23.
The Caribou boys (5-0) remained unbeaten on the season as the Vikings rolled to an impressive 98-48 victory over the Crusaders. The Caribou girls (2-3) were not as fortunate and fell to John Bapst, 47-33.
In the boys game, Parker Deprey scored 31 points to lead the Vikings, while Isaac Marker added 14 and Sawyer Deprey and Alex Bouchard chipping in 10 points each.
For John Bapst, Jaedan Sockbesin tallied nine points, Luke Norman added eight and Sam Ellis, Jordan Kimball and Connor Young each had six.
The Vikings doubled up its opponents, 18-9, at the end of the first quarter and by halftime, were up 48-23. Caribou scored another 29 points in the third quarter while John Bapst scored just nine. In the final quarter, John Bapst scored a total of 16 points while Caribou scored 21, bringing the final score to 98-48.
In the girls game played immediately after, the Vikings came out strong, leading 10-9 to end the first quarter, but trailed 23-19 by halftime and 20-25 after three periods. The Crusaders pulled away in the final frame, outscoring Caribou 18-8.
Selena Savage paced the Vikings with 14 points, while Paige Espling added 10, Emily Collins five, and Renee Stubbs and Ashlyn Bouchard both had two. For John Bapst, Lacey Scanlon led the way with 17 points, while Sydney Ellis added 12 points and Emily Mock chipped in 10.
The Viking girls also lost to Houlton, 42-36, Dec. 19 at Houlton. Taylor LaBreck led Caribou with 13 points, while Espling chipped in with eight, Savage added seven, Stubbs had five and Kim Susi had three points.
For Houlton, Rebecca Howe led all players with 17 points, with Teagan Ewings adding 11, Mia Henderson six, Olivia Henderson five and Drew Warman three.
The two teams were tied 7-7 at the end of the first quarter, but Houlton took a 17-10 halftime lead that grew to 31-20 after three periods.
