PRESQUE ISLE, Maine — Northern Maine Community College’s Automotive Technology Program received a diesel TDI Volkswagen Jetta from Darling’s Auto Group of Bangor, during the company’s TDI Taco Tuesday event, which aims to raise awareness about the diesel model.
According to Robert Kaiser, automotive instructor at NMCC, the addition of this vehicle allows for new training opportunities.
“It allows students to touch on the diesel side of the automotive world, instead of just the gasoline side,” said Kaiser. “Our students now have the opportunity to work with gasoline, diesel and hybrid vehicles during their training.”
“A lot of technicians are going to be retiring and the workforce is aging. We realize how important it is to work with the colleges that train our potential new employees,” said Bob Campbell, service director at the dealership. “This partnership will help ensure that future technicians have the skills required in the auto service industry.”
The automotive technology program provides broad fundamental training in all aspects of automotive service and repair, employing up-to-date methods, materials and equipment. The program meets the quality training of automotive technicians, at the master level, as set by the National Institute for Automotive Service Excellence.
Students are eligible for ASE professional level certification exams upon completion of the program.
