Hoop Shoot is a national foul shooting competition for youth sponsored by the Elks National Foundation. In two separate rounds, contestants each attempt a total of 25 foul shots. The winner is determined to be the foul shooter in each age category and division with the greatest number of successful shots. In the event of a tie, shoot-offs of five additional foul shot attempts by each of the tied competitors are held until a winner emerges. The winners in each age category and division are then eligible to compete in the District-wide Hoop Shoot to be held on Sunday, January 6, 2020, at the James Doughty School in Bangor. State-wide, New England and national Hoop Shoot competitions follow.
Sjoberg is the father of Faith Sjoberg, who was a perennial winner in her age division and category throughout the various levels of competition. She was three-time New England winner, thereby entitling her to compete at the national level in 2016, 2017 and 2018. Sjoberg knows from personal experience, therefore, that the Elks Hoop Shoot competition is exciting to watch.
Admission is free to the public on Saturday, December 28, 2019, at Wieden Hall.
