CARIBOU, Maine — The next Aroostook Festival Market will take place from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. at Micmac Farms in Caribou on Saturday, Jan. 11.
Typically a time of rest and planning, winter is considered the offseason to the busy livelihood of the agricultural world. But the need to beat winter blues and whet people’s appetite for local foods is what fuels the energy of the Festival Market Series, said Jacob Pelke of Micmac Farms.
Local agriculture and four talented musical guests will be the center of attention at this fourth in the Festival Market series.
Aroostook County producers will represent an array of products ranging from meat products like grassfed beef, Maine brook trout, lamb, pork and chicken to candies, potato chips, microgreens, maple and locally roasted coffee.
“The Festival Market Series is about bringing local foods together under one roof and focusing on the regional flavor of our area” said Ayana Green of Micmac Farms. “A great diversity and knowledge of agricultural businesses is represented at the market and these festivals are a great way to connect consumers to their food.”
In addition, holding the Aroostook Festival Market at a working farm can be a good resource for people who are considering raising their own foods.
Participants may enjoy a hot lunch, free hot coffee, tours of the Maine brook trout hatchery and these musical guests: 10 a.m., Janice Santos; 11 a.m., Hoss and Lurleen; 12 p.m., Steve Boody; and 1 p.m., Sheldon Wright.
