Elks announce local Hoop Shoot winners

PRESQUE ISLE, Maine — The Presque Isle Elks Lodge 1954 held its annual Hoop Shoot foul shooting contest on Saturday, December 28, 2019, at the Wieden Hall gymnasium on the University of Maine at Presque Isle campus. 

Young people ranging in ages from 8 through 13 participated in three different age groups.  Each competitor had received an invitation to the Hoop Shoot as a result of having won the competition in their elementary or middle school or town recreation programs.  A total of 876 competitors participated at the school or recreation program level.

The winners in each of the respective categories are as follows. 

Girls

Ages 8-9: Quinn Corrigan, Caribou; runner-up Abbie Hopkins, Easton.

Ages 10-11: Madison Oakes, Mapleton; runner-up Lenora Curtis, Zippel.

Ages 12-13: Ainsley Caron, Caribou; runner-up Lexi Morningstar, Presque Isle Middle School.

Boys

Ages 8-9: Hudson Porter, Mapleton; runner-up Parker Dewley, LImestone.

Ages 10-11: Kason Bua, Presque Isle; runner-up Jacob Edgecomb, Limestone.

Ages 12-13: Brayden Brescia, Caribou; runner-up Wyatt Young, Presque Isle Middle School. 

The high scorer for the Presque Isle Lodge Hoop Shoot was Brayden Brescia, who successfully made 22 of his 25 foul shot attempts.  For the young women, both Ainsley Caron and Madison Oakes made 18 out of 25 foul shots in order for each to win in their respective age categories.
