115 Years Ago – Feb. 1, 1905
Trains — The train service was badly delayed last week on account of the storm. All B & A trains were waiting in Bangor for the arrival of western trains. The mail due here at eleven in the morning did not arrive until about eight o’clock that night.
New school — An effort is being made by the Holy Rosary Church to secure funds with which to build a Parochial School on the site of the old French Schoolhouse lot so called near the junction of Washington Street and the old Presque Isle road. Committees have been appointed who are to make an active canvas for funds and all indicators so far are nothing but encouraging.
75 Years Ago – Feb. 1, 1945
Winter storm — An 18-inch snowfall blanketed the Caribou area, the worst storm since 1935. Starting late Monday afternoon, the storm soon reached blinding intensity, tying up traffic on the streets.
School carnival — The 19th annual School Carnival was held Friday in Limestone with snow shoe and skiing contests in the afternoon. The coronation of the queen and the carnival ball were held in the evening at the High School gym, with music by the Merrymakers.
50 Years Ago – Feb. 4, 1970
American Kitchen Foods establishes safety record — Armand LaRocca, operations manager of American Kitchen Foods Inc., announced that the Caribou plant established an outstanding safety record in 1969. American Kitchen Foods in Caribou became a year to remember safety wise, as employees demonstrated that by teamwork difficult objectives can be met.
25 Years Ago – Feb. 1, 1995
Woodland School Board supports bus purchase — At its Jan. 23 meeting, the Woodland School Board voted unanimously to authorize Superintendent David Beal to put out bids to purchase a new school bus.
Limestone’s volunteers save school added costs — Volunteers at the Limestone Community School are proof that money talks, according to a recent school department newsletter. Individuals volunteering their time and services have devoted a total of 569 hours to performing tasks, and helping staff from September through December.
