HOULTON, Maine — A small field of 24 runners turned out Saturday morning for the annual Moosestompers 5K road race.
Zackary McAllister was the overall race winner as he completed the 3.2-mile course in 19 minutes, 25 seconds. Teanne Ewings was the first female finisher, and second overall, at 19:49.
Ideal running conditions greeted the runners, with temperatures in the 20s and most of the roads around Houlton clear of snow and ice.
This year’s event was organized by Chris Rines and served as a benefit for the Houlton cross-country and track and field programs. It is the first in the race series for the Aroostook County Musterds running club. In previous years, the race was sponsored by Katahdin Trust Company.
The top finishers in their divisions received a custom, metal moose crafted by Rines.
