Houlton Recreation Department hosts public events, programs

HOULTON, Maine — The Houlton Parks and Recreation Department is hosting a number of activities and programs in the coming weeks.

Starting the week of Feb. 24, girls and boys in fifth and sixth grade can participate in youth basketball. Registration forms have been distributed throughout the local schools or participants may pick up one at the Houlton Recreation Department’s office. There will be a separate program for boys and girls. The cost for the five-week program is $25 for Houlton residents and $35 for non-Houlton residents. Registration forms will be accepted until Feb. 13. 

February Vacation Fun Program

The Rec Center’s “February Fun Program” for children in grades Pre-K through Grade 5 will be held Tuesday, Feb. 18 through Thursday, Feb. 20 from 9-11 a.m. each morning during February vacation. The cost is $5 per child per day. Tuesday will feature children’s crafts; Wednesday will be “crazy games” and Thursday will be “kids cooking.” The program must have a minimum of 10 and maximum of 24 youth. Registration is required, call 532-1310 by Feb. 13.

University of Maine Cooperative Extension to offer cooking class

The University of Maine Cooperative Extension will be offering the class “Getting to know your Electric Pressure Cooker” in Houlton. Interested individuals can select either Friday, Feb. 21 or Friday, Feb. 28 to attend the class.

The class will be held at the Houlton Rec Center from noon-3 p.m. each day. The cost is $10 per person and the class is limited to 12 participants. Lisa Fishman from the University of Maine Cooperative Extension will help you learn how to use your Electric Pressure Cooker and create nutritious meals for your family and friends. Registration is required by Feb 19.
