HOULTON, Maine — The Houlton Council of Catholic Women met on Monday, Feb. 3, in the Parish Center for their monthly meeting and packed Valentine’s Day bags with home baked cookies, fudge, fruit and other assorted treats for members of the parish who are unable to get out.
There were nine members and Deacon Al present. Deacon Al gave the blessing and a lovely meal was enjoyed by all provided by the February committee.
President Janet Barker called the meeting to order. Kathy Klein, recording secretary, read the minutes of the January meeting and Treasurer Jane Mitchell gave her report. Alta Reardon, corresponding secretary, read several thank you cards. Barker gave some interesting statistics from early years when Anna Schools and Mildred Madigan were chairpersons of the St. Patrick’s Bazaar.
We are congratulating our Family of the Month for February, Melissa, Katherine and Evan Berube.
Janet Barker gave an update on the St. Patrick’s Bazaar to be held on March 14. Members of the council will be responsible for the “Cake Walk.” We will also be donating a girl’s bike for the raffle.
President Barker reminded everyone that Rosary is said at 10:30 a.m. on the third Monday of the month at Madigan and at Gardiner on the third Friday of the month. All are encouraged to attend.
Birthdays and anniversaries for February were noted. Ethel Mersereau won the door prize. Prayer intentions were gathered and we said a decade of the Rosary.
Our next meeting will be on March 2, in the Parish Center at 5:30 p.m. All Catholic ladies are invited to attend.
