Pigs — William Theriault caused quite a stir of interest Wednesday when he was seen on Sweden Street with four pigs. He has them trained really well. He is very fond of his pigs and has named them. They all respond to their names when called.
75 Years Ago – Feb. 15, 1945
Boy Scouts — In observance of the 35th anniversary of the Boy Scouts of America, Warren Morang of Houlton, Field Scout executive of the Katahdin Council, yesterday urged Rotarians and citizens to do everything possible to reorganize active troops in Caribou.
50 Years Ago – Feb. 18, 1970
Willey receives award — Loomis Willey Jr., who has received a Business Management Award, has been the Gates distributor for Northern Maine for the past five years. The Highway Tire Co. started the business with only one man and one truck on the road, and has expanded to five employees and three trucks.
Would establish free Limestone-to-Presque-Isle calls — Limestone telephone subscribers have received a request from the Limestone Chamber of Commerce for their opinion regarding toll-free calling from Limestone to Presque Isle. If toll free calls are approved, present residential rates would be increased by 70 cents per month.

Caribou readies for fun at 60th Winter Carnival — The 60th annual Caribou Winter Carnival will get underway this year Thursday, Feb. 16, and continue through Sunday, Feb. 26. Some new events have been added to the schedule this year, a radar run and bonfire sponsored by the Caribou Lions and Caribou Grizzlies, will be held Sunday, Feb. 19, with concession stands throughout the day at Spruce Haven. Another new event is the first annual County Pet Challenge, sponsored by North Country Animal Hospital.
