PRESQUE ISLE, Maine — The University of Maine at Presque Isle will present a night of comedy and local talent when it hosts its second annual Variety Show at 6 p.m. on Thursday, Feb. 27, at the Auditorium in Wieden Hall.
This family-friendly Variety Show will feature acts by students and other members of the campus community, and will be hosted by Los Angeles-based stand-up comedian Noah Copfer. This event is free and open to the public.
“We wanted to host this event to showcase the talent we have on campus, and add in even more fun by having Noah Copfer emcee the event,” Jessica Cameron, co-chair of the UMPI Variety Show planning committee, said. “He comes highly recommended and is going to add an extra element of fun to the show.”
In addition to Copfer’s role as the evening’s emcee and house comedian, the variety show will feature eight acts spotlighting a wide range of talents, including singing, dancing, and musicianship. MoonDance Studios, a local dance group, will also make a special appearance.
Four judges, with representation from faculty, staff, students, and alumni, will review these acts. Judges will select best overall act and most original act. Those attending the event will determine the audience choice act.
UMPI’s National Society of Leadership and Success will provide concessions at the show as a fundraiser. As a special treat for a few lucky attendees, UMPI’s Student Activities Office is raffling off a “Best Seat in the House” package. Raffle tickets are free, though how attendees can get them will be revealed the night of the show.
“We’re so excited to bring this event back for another year and to offer up an evening filled with talent,” Sarah Coyer, event co-chair and UMPI’s Director of Student Life, said. “We encourage everyone to come on out and enjoy the show!”
